Your essential bathroom reno questions answered!

Before you can renovate your bathroom, there are a lot of question you will need to know the answers to… Will you be including a bath?  Are you tiling the bathroom walls to the ceiling, or maybe just a skirt tile, or just in the shower? What style are you going for in your bathroom renovation? The list goes on.

These are only some of the essential questions that you’ll find yourself up against when embarking on your bathroom renovation journey, and without addressing these all-important questions you will end up finding the whole process extremely overwhelming! So, let us help you out by answering the top 5 bathroom reno questions.

Does my bathroom need a bath?

To bath or not to bath, is really dependent on your family’s needs, so the answer to this question is going to differ from one house hold to the next. As a general rule, if your house has 3 bedrooms or more then including a bath in your house hold is expected.

However if your bathroom doesn’t have the luxury of space, a shower over bath combination is a great option. But keep in mind who the renovation is for, if you and your family are to enjoy the home for years to come but won’t use a bath, then lose the bath.

Is a separate toilet a must?

No, it’s certainly not as you will find it is extremely common for the toilet to be positioned within the bathroom. If your existing space has a separate toilet, keep it that way and include a small wall mount basin in the rooms so that the bathroom and separate toilet can function independently of one another. If your toilet is located in the bathroom then be mindful to position the toilet out of direct sight from the entry – no one wants to be drawn to that particular feature when they first walk into your beautiful new bathroom, now do they.

How much of the bathroom should I tile?

Let’s be honest no bathroom renovation is complete without the inclusion of tiles! The tiling process however can be costly from the cost of tiles to the labor to install them, but you do have options. If tiling the whole room floor to ceiling is breaking the budget then consider half height wall tiles, or outside of your shower wall tiles, a cost cutting option can be to include a skirt tile on your bathroom walls. How much of your bathroom you tile will come down to your budget and how much tiling is necessary to create the look you’re trying to achieve.

How can I add colour to my bathroom?

Most people shy away from using colour in the bathroom because they are afraid of making a selection that will date, or they are unsure on how to introduce colour without overwhelming the space. If this sounds like you, then rest assure there are plenty of subtle approaches to take when introducing colour into your bathroom. It can be as simple as introducing colours in your accessories such as towels, artwork and plants, or inject colour into the room by painting the walls above your tiles.

What lighting do I need?

A good place to start is by making sure you have an adequate amount of natural light entering the room, whether that  be from a window or skylight. In addition include downlights throughout the space, in particular by vanity unit mirror to make your morning and night routines a breeze. Another important option to consider in your bathroom renovation is soft feature lighting, such as a backlit mirror or ceiling lights on a dimmer switch to add mood to the space.
